New Larrabee details
Intel unveiled some details about its upcoming Larrabee accelerator/discrete graphics architecture, due for launch in 2009 or 2010. Larrabee is a multi core processor containing ten or more individual x86 processor cores inside one silicon package. Discrete graphics cards using the Larrabee architecture will be aimed at the gaming market, this means that Intel is directly targeting Amd and Nvidia. The use of x86 cores means that game developers can use common programming languages like C and C++ rather than having to learn a new programming language like Nvidia's Cuda. Intel says Larrabee will support both DirectX and OpenGL APIs.
